GIVE AND TAKE DAY Sat 9 March!

Saturday 9th March 2013

A New Way to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

Give and Take Days, Junk Swaps, Trash for Treasure Events - whatever you call them, they can help us to buy less, spend less and use less which, as well as saving money and natural resources, will reduce household waste sent to landfill.

Our next Give and Take Day will be held on Saturday 9 March from 10am - 12pm, at the Selwyn Hall, Valens Terrace, Box, SN13 8NT. This time we will be hosting the event in partnership with the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust to promote their Rubbish Diet programme.

What is a ‘Give and Take’ Day?

Organisers hire a hall, you bring along household items you don’t want and then hopefully take away something you do want. No money changes hands.

Following in the footsteps of Neston Recycling Group, Corsham Zero Waste Group held their first Give and Take Day in September 2011. There was a great turn out of volunteers to await people bringing their goods to Corsham Community Centre. A steady flow of ‘customers’ arrived to provide full tables and lots of choice of good quality items. People of all ages brought and took chairs, mirrors, clothing, pictures, vases, baby equipment, lots of high quality books and sports gear etc. Children loved the treasure trove of toys and games. Garden tools were particularly popular, staying in the hall for all of twenty seconds! Everyone was pleased with the items they came away with and expressed their enthusiasm for the concept. It even took a while for people to come to terms with the idea they did not need to pay anything!

What can I give?
Anything listed above, plus other items such as kitchen equipment, small items of furniture, DVDs, bric-a-brac, unwanted gifts etc. However, articles must be in good, clean condition and full working order and be able to be carried by one person.

What can’t I bring?
Electrical goods, sharp or dangerous articles or anything that is broken.

What can I take?
Anything that is available. You do not even have to bring something to swap. However, all items are taken ‘as seen’.

Save money, discover something you always wanted and de-clutter your home all in one fantastic community event. Reusing what is already around and reducing what we buy new are both planet and people friendly.

Get ready for the next Give and Take Day!
