10 March 19 – Litter Picking the Lanes

Members of Transition Corsham were out on the Lanes between Corsham and Chippenham on 10th March, litter picking. Easton lane and the road from the Thingley crossroads at the A4 to Lacock have suffered in recent years from persistent littering. Easton Lane is currently closed to traffic due to the Hunters Moon development so its an ideal traffic free litter picking target. The other lanes have wide verges and are also safe to pick. A total of 14 people were involved who collected at least Continue reading →

December litter pick

Our festive December litter pick went well despite the rain, we had over 20 volunteers including a number of children and we all looked very festive in our Christmas jumpers and hats! Councillor Ruth Hopkinson and Helen Belcher, whose working to be the Lib Dem MP for Chippenham, came along to help. We managed to litter pick parts of Bradford Road, Park Lane, Valley Road, Furzehill, Station Road, around the Campus and Pickwick Roads, Meriton and Springfield Recsto name but a few. As well as Continue reading →

November litter pick

November’s litter pick went well with over 35 people, including Cllr Steve Abbott, children, parents and a staff member from Heywoods Prep School and a lady who recently turned 90 years of age proving you’re never too old to litter pick! Despite rain initially, we collected 20 bags of rubbish plus 5 bags of recycling.  The highlights were a pair of socks, a full (!) nappy, a pair of trousers, a packet of prawn crisps and 8 unopened cans of strong cider!  Areas covered included Continue reading →

October litter pick

Our October litter pick was really very well attended, 30 keen litter pickers turned up including 6 children. It was great to see so many youngsters. As we had so many volunteers, we were able to send groups out to most areas of Corsham, and we collected 25 bags of rubbish as well as 6 smaller bags of recycling. Among the finds were a saucepan, tyre, remains of a car accident (light bulbs, glass, bumper…) as well as the usual discarded fast food wrappers, sweet Continue reading →

September litter pick

The weather wasn’t great, but an intrepid team of 13, including one child and Councillors Steve Abbott and Raymond Le-Var met at the Springfield Campus for September’s litter pick. We like to respond to residents’ requests and having heard about glass scattered under swings in the playground at Meriton Rec and lots of litter in the Nature Reserve at the bottom of Katherine Park we headed off to clear up both of these areas. Someone else had cleared the glass when we arrived but there Continue reading →

August litter pick

On a dry day in August, 12 adults and 3 children donned their hi-vis jackets, grabbed their pickers and headed off into the unknown to clear Corsham of litter! We had a very successful morning with 20 bags of rubbish being collected in total. Ruth Hopkinson, our Wiltshire and Corsham Town Councillor headed off with a group to Pockeridge Lakes and the ditch in Buckthorn Row and collected 7 bags of rubbish themselves! Apparently, those fishing use sweetcorn and spam as bait (who knew!) and Continue reading →

July litter pick

We had a very successful litter pick this month, a total of 14 people braved the showery weather including 2 children who had fun using the pickers! An initial heavy downpour wasn’t enough to dampen spirits but did mean a quick dash to seek shelter. The heat of the previous few days seemed a thing of the past and it was quite chilly for those in T-shirts. Undaunted we headed off to different locations and managed to cover Valley Road, the Springfield Campus, Springfield Rec, Continue reading →

June litter pick

Our June litter pick went well and the weather was sunny for a change! 10 willing helpers turned up and 9 full bags of rubbish were collected. We covered several areas around Katherine Park, Kings and Queens Avenues to the north of Corsham, parts of the A4 and Bradford Road, the Springfield Campus, Meriton Rec and to the south of Corsham Regis School.   During the month a volunteer found a key whilst out litter picking and via the Shout Out Corsham Facebook page managed to Continue reading →

May litter pick

Our May litter pick was a success, despite the weather trying again to dampen our spirits! Fingers crossed for sunny weather next month.. We had a respectable 9 volunteers turn up and 13 bags of rubbish were collected. We covered several areas around Katherine Park, the roads around and to the south of the Campus, Pickwick Road, Meriton Rec and to the north of Corsham, around Corsham Regis School.   Cigarette butts are a big (or is that small??) problem and they are so time consuming Continue reading →

April litter pick

Our April litter pick was a success despite the drizzly weather, but it did clear up a bit as the morning went on! Twelve adults, including Councillor Ruth  Hopkinson, and two children braved the weather and collected 17 bags of rubbish.  We targeted various areas including Park Lane, part of Lacock Road, the area around Corsham Regis Primary School, Meriton Rec, Leaford Industrial Estate, Potley and the area around the Springfield Campus. Do come along and join in the fun (!!) at our next litter Continue reading →
